If you’re on a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan in South Florida, this is worth reading. UnitedHealthcare has confirmed it’s reducing or exiting Florida Medicare Advantage coverage in 225 counties nationwide for 2027, and several of the state’s biggest counties are on that list: Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Lee, and Collier.
What’s Actually Changing
UnitedHealthcare’s 2027 filings show the company scaling back its Medicare Advantage footprint across the country, and Florida is absorbing a significant share of those cuts. In the counties listed above, that can mean a plan being discontinued outright, a shrinking service area, or provider networks and benefits changing enough that your current plan won’t look the same next year.
Southwest Florida is seeing a related move: Naples Comprehensive Health is dropping its Wellcare and HealthSpring Medicare Advantage contracts at the end of 2026, cutting off in-network access to its hospitals and physician groups for members on those plans.
Why This Matters for Palm Beach County Members
We’re headquartered right here in Palm Beach Gardens, and Palm Beach County is one of the counties named in UnitedHealthcare’s 2027 filings. If you’re on a UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan and live in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Lee, or Collier County, don’t assume your plan is automatically renewing as-is. Watch your mailbox for your Annual Notice of Change letter in the coming weeks. It will spell out exactly what’s changing for your specific plan.
What to Do Before AEP Opens
- Read your ANOC letter as soon as it arrives instead of setting it aside.
- Confirm your doctors and hospitals will still be in-network for 2027, not just that the plan still exists.
- Check whether your prescriptions are still covered at the same cost.
- Mark October 15 on your calendar. That’s when Annual Enrollment Period opens, and it runs through December 7.
