Insurance advisor discussing Georgia Medicare Advantage plan options with clients

Georgia Medicare Advantage: Clear Spring Health Exits

If you’re on a Clear Spring Health Medicare Advantage plan in Georgia, here’s what you need to know: Clear Spring Health is exiting the Georgia Medicare Advantage market , along with Illinois and Colorado, affecting more than 12,000 members. Unlike a network dispute with one hospital system, this means the plan itself is going away, not just a set of providers within it.

What’s Actually Changing

Clear Spring Health confirmed it’s discontinuing its Medicare Advantage plans in Georgia, citing underperformance. Members affected will need to actively choose a new Medicare Advantage plan or switch to Original Medicare; coverage doesn’t automatically roll over to another carrier. Anyone on a Clear Spring Health plan will receive a formal non-renewal notice, but it’s worth acting on the news now rather than waiting for that letter to arrive.

Why an Exit Is Different From a Network Change

A hospital dropping a carrier usually means you can keep your plan and just switch doctors, or vice versa. A carrier exiting the market entirely is a bigger deal: your specific plan won’t exist in 2027 no matter what, so there’s no version of “staying put.” Every affected member has to make an active choice during AEP, whether that’s a different Medicare Advantage plan, a Medicare Supplement, or Original Medicare with a standalone drug plan.

What to Do Before AEP Opens

  • Don’t wait for your formal non-renewal letter. Start comparing new plans now.
  • Review your prescriptions and preferred doctors against any new plan’s formulary and network before you enroll.
  • Consider whether a Medicare Advantage plan, Medicare Supplement, or Original Medicare with Part D fits your needs best.
  • Mark October 15 on your calendar. That’s when Annual Enrollment Period opens, and it runs through December 7.
